Competition among printing companies have always been fierce, but printing companies have also always been good working together. Web-offset printers often need sub-contractors, digital printers often offset capacity, and offset printers different options in formats, in configurations, etc.

So we are used to source from partners. When the online printers started the competition became tougher and tougher, and many printing companies experienced a competition impossible to match. With gigantic volumes, extremely efficient production facilities, and fast turn-around time, you could either embrace or find niches where the large-size isn't a competitive advantage.

Many of the larger online printers took upon themselves a new role as suppliers to the other printing companies. I believe there was a couple of reasons for this. One reason is obviously to gain even more volume. Still, another could also be that the large online printers realised that they couldn't serve the customers that need help with design, choice of paper, formats, etc. and therefore the role of becoming a sub-contractor was a natural step.

A few years ago, I made an interview with Managing Director, Sales, Ali Jason Bazooband from Print24/Unitedprint. In the interview, he explained that it had taken time for printers in different countries to see and accept that online printers can be partners.

Friday afternoon 12:30 to 13:00, May 29th 2020, Ali Jason Bazooband will share his insight on why it is essential to use sub-contractors, and what benefits it gives both parts.
